GRAFTON FOOD PANTRY PROVIDES NEW BOOKS FOR CHILDREN
(Huntley, IL)
Grafton Food Pantry is the recipient of a grant from National Louis University’s Center for Teaching through Children’s Books for 175 new children’s books. The Center for Teaching through Children’s Books is dedicated to excellence in teaching with quality literature for children and adolescents. Their focus is: considering multicultural and international literature a core resource for learning about the world; promoting issues of social justice in curriculum using children’s books; fostering a community of children’s literature educators and scholars; providing outreach activities and programs to support librarians and teachers; embracing digital forms of literature and information as resources and tools; and partnering with schools, libraries, organizations, and committed individuals to support this mission through collaborative efforts sharing materials, resources, and expertise.
“We were honored to have been selected and associated with such a prestigious program.  The children of our clients now have an opportunity to own a brand new book of their choice.  When there are not adequate funds for food, buying books is not even an option for many of our families. The excitement on the faces of the children was a joy to watch. We are very appreciative of the generosity of the Center for Teaching through Children’s Books and this program. A special thank you to Board Member Harriet Ford for her efforts in acquiring the grant and selecting each book,” said Kathy Schneiter, President of the Grafton Food Pantry.
