Grafton Food Pantry Needs Volunteers!

Date:  Saturday, May 10th

Event:  Stamp Out Hunger (USPS annual food drive)

Location:  Huntley Park District cafeteria (12015 Mill Street)

Shifts:  1-3pm & 3-5pm

For the first time, the Huntley Post Office will be participating in the USPS national food drive ‘Stamp Out Hunger’.  All residents should soon be receiving a postcard from the USPS announcing the drive.  On May 10th all postal carriers will pick up any nonperishable food donations left out by your mailbox.  It will be weighed and brought to the Huntley Park District to be sorted and packed by area volunteers.  All donations benefit local families in need through the Grafton Food Pantry.  Volunteers will be needed to:

Sort - Most volunteers will be sorters.  Sorters will take a bag or bin (what ever you can handle) and drop off the food items at appropriate stations set up throughout the room.  We have been told there is the potential for 10,000 lbs. of food to sort!

Pack - A few volunteers will be needed to pack and label the donations being sorted.

Misc. - A few volunteers will be needed as greeters, bag sorters and box makers.

If you would like to volunteer but have lifting or standing considerations please let us know.  We can still use your help.  This is a community event.  Please invite family and friends to volunteer.  Students can earn community service hours.  If you are available please contact the Grafton Food Pantry at:

The Grafton Food Pantry is as an organization that truly brings the community together. Strong ongoing initiatives have been made to reach out to local businesses, service groups, elementary and high school students, Scouts, churches, temples, and the residents of Sun City in order to better serve the community. We also provide referrals to other agencies and programs so that our clients may have every opportunity for any support they may need. We believe in utilizing existing services, not in duplicating the efforts of other agencies. We serve the Village of Huntley, Village of Lakewood, and portions of Lake in the Hills, Crystal Lake, and Algonquin. Our generous volunteers and benefactors are of every age, religious faith and ethnicity. They work side by side helping their neighbors in need.
